To God Be All The Glory!!

This morning's prayer call was awesome! Apostle Dawn Burrell of New Creations Christian Church and Ministries led a powerful prayer and Minister Kevin Harris of St. Stephen Baptist Church blessed us with devotion. Min. Harris discussed John 21:1-6 and titled the devotion "His Promise, His Patience and our Purpose". I'll try to post my notes tomorrow. Today I want to share a valuable lesson that I learned this morning. It's just too good to keep to myself.

Because I am a perfectionist, I get frustrated when things don't go as planned, especially when it pertains to something as important as this prayer call. In addition to the technical difficulties, one of the participants was really sick and another participant was unable to call in. It seemed as though everything was going wrong. But as soon as Apostle Burrell began to pray, I remembered what another minister told me the night before. This prayer call may have just started but it has the potential to reach a lot of souls and bless a lot of believers. I am well aware of this but guess what - so is the devil. He has his eyes set on ministries (and people!) that have the potential and power to bring more souls to Christ and strengthen personal relationships with God. Knowing this I shouldn't be frustrated. Instead I should be grateful and excited. I don't have to worry about Satan or his schemes because the bible tells us that we have power over the enemy (Luke 10) and that Satan is defeated. That's already done. Our Lord and Savior took care of that a long time ago. So our job today is to give Him all the glory, despite the enemy's tactics. While systems may not work, lines may be down, participants may be sick, prayer will still go forth and praises will still go up. God will still get all the Glory!

Remember this thought throughout the week. You will be amazed at how much just changing your perspective can change your situation. So give it a try. Then give God all the glory and come back and tell us about it here!!!

My Soul Thirsts for God - Psalm 42

Hopefully you were able to participate in the prayer call this week. It was such a blessing!! Dr. Trenace Richardson of Zion Church was the facilitator. Before prayer, she began a devotion that focused on Psalm 42, verses 1-5.

In this scripture, the Psalmist likens his thirst for God to that of a deer panting for water. In verse two he says "my soul thirsts for God". Dr. Richardson shared two personal declarations to maintain her soul's thirst for God.

1. My soul thirsts for what I need, not for what I want.
She says that we should be so desperate for God that nothing else will satisfy us. We should be so desperate that we begin to spend more time in prayer, more time in devotion, and more time reading His word. That desperation will encourage us to follow God's lead  in every area of our life.

2. My soul thirsts for His presence, not just His presents.
Dr. Richardson declared that her soul desires to bask in the very presence of God. When in His presence we don't have to wonder if God is there, we know it and can feel it. Furthermore, the presence of God is more than enough for us. Our soul is satisfied even if God isn't giving us a gift or a present. We would still express our sincerest gratitude just because God has graced us with His presence. When our soul thirsts for God, we grow from asking God for "things" every time we pray to just being grateful to be in His presence.

How great is that? Take a few moments today to just meditate on this devotion. What are your thoughts? Post them here!

Welcome!

Thank you for joining The Casting Call! I am so excited about what God is doing and I hope that you are too!!

The Bible instructs us to pray without ceasing and in these days and times the need for prayer is so evident. Of course one on one time with our King is essential to our very existence but one cannot overlook the benefits of group prayer. I think one of the greatest benefits is hearing that others are facing challenges in life, just like I am. As difficult as these challenges are for me, so it is with others. Prayer is personal and we don't always get to see another person's vulnerability like we do during prayer. Group prayer allows you to see and hear your brothers and sisters unguarded. You can hear their cries as well as their praises. That to me is amazing and lets me know that I am not alone. Another benefit is witnessing an answered prayer. Not only can you rejoice with your brother or sister, but you can be assured that your answer is on its way. Hallelujah! How awesome is that? The benefits are endless but I'll share one more. Group prayer has incited a strong desire to strengthen my own prayer regimen. It has shown me how to pray, encouraged me to pray more and has given me the assurance that God is there and He cares.

There are many scriptures supporting corporate prayer and I've listed some of them below. Please read them when you can. If you haven't already, give group prayer a try. I promise you will be blessed. Be sure to stop by our blog and let us know how you've been blessed by corporate prayer - especially if it's The Casting Call!!
